SNOW WATCH: light snow in the Paris region this morning

this Wednesday

7 am the situation changes. A snow front descends from Hauts-de-France and Normandy and crosses the Paris region between 8 and 10 this morning. Like tonight, it will be weak and could add 1 to 2 cm of snow to the light dusting in places. Although these amounts remain low, it is advisable to be careful due to the slippery floors during your travels.

At 6 in the morning the cold resists north of the Loire, under negative temperatures, between -2 and 0°C. As a result, precipitation occurs in the form of light snowfall between Normandy, north of the Paris basin and north of Champagne, where it sticks to the ground. These snowfalls are less significant than expected and leave a layer of 1 to 2 cm on the ground, but make the roads very slippery mainly in Calvados.

On Paris and its region, beware also of a light dusting on the ground north of the capital. The quantities are small (1 cm), but sufficient to make the roads smooth. Use caution when traveling in the Paris region this morning.

In Alsace and Lorraine, light snowfall also occurs, below -4 to -2°C and stays immediately on the ground. It is quiet in Brittany. However, due to temperatures around 0°C, the ice is quite widespread this morning in the northern part of the region.

Finally, from Orleans to Morvan to Dijon, freezing rain is in progress, making the ground very slippery.

22:30: end of this follow-up. Resumes at 6 o’clock on Wednesday.

At 10:20 temperatures vary from -2°C from Île-de-France to Hauts-de-France to 1°C inland in Brittany. Precipitation over Brittany gradually extends towards Lower Normandy, Mayenne and Sarthe.

For this night, snowfall of low to moderate intensity should affect the departments between the Cotentin and Île-de-France, while freezing rain will extend from Mayenne to the Loiret.

Given the risk of ice in Île-de-France, Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports are canceling some of the flights scheduled for Wednesday. It is also strongly recommended to limit your travels and to keep your distance.

at 9 p.m., freezing rain is observed in northern Brittany between Saint-Brieuc and Rennes. Temperatures are still between 0 and 1°C and shouldn’t change too much before 02:00 on Wednesday. In this context, we can fear that these freezing rains will continue before the mild rain is expected overnight. In the rest of Brittany, a few small snowfalls and/or mixed rain and snow are observed locally in Vannes(56) or Landivisiau(29).

During the next few hours, freezing rain will spread towards Mayenne and Sarthe. In the direction of the Cotentin and Calvados, light to moderate snowfall is expected.

19.40 at the mixed rain and snow appeared in the north of Finistère under temperatures between 0 and 1°C, temperatures found throughout the interior of Brittany. At present, this situation does not pose a traffic risk, although it may interfere with your driving.

During the evening, snowfall should be limited to the north of the Côtes-d’Armor and Ile-et-Vilaine departments, where temperatures will be the lowest and where the cold air will resist. , but these will be freezing rain which will be to be feared. WARNING, because they start around 20:30 in the south of Côtes-d’Armor before spreading to the north of the department and the north of Ile-et-Vilaine.

18 o’clock, the first rain hit the Breton coast, from Finistère to Morbihan. With temperatures of 1° to 3°C, this cold rain can mix with melting snow, but without consequences. We must be alert to the risk of snowmelt in the next few hours up to Côtes d’Armor and Ile-et-Vilaine with +1°C. The risk of freezing rain seems quite low given these slightly positive temperatures, which will not drop further.

From Normandy to Ile-de-France and Centre-Val-de-Loire it was generally 0°C at 6pm with a drop that will be moderate due to the cloudy skies but will still be negative. these areas (0° to -2°C).

This afternoon, the episode of rain and snow has stopped in the centre-east, but temperatures remain low, without thawing with 0°C in e.g. Lyon and Annecy. A slight thaw affects Auvergne with 3° in Clermont-Ferrand and 2°C in St-Etienne, but we can see that the cold air has resisted more in the plains and valleys. Further north it did not thaw in Saône-et-Loire with -1°C in Mâcon for example this afternoon.

To the northwest, the weather remained calm, dry and often quite sunny pending the disturbance this evening and night. Temperatures remained close to 0°C this afternoon with 0° in Caen, Orléans and Rouen, 1° in Saint Malo and Alençon, 2° in Rennes and in inner Paris. These temperatures will gradually drop between Normandy, Center and Ile-de-France before the arrival of the rainy snow disturbance this night. For the western part of Brittany, it will not freeze, which explains why it is rain that is expected in Finistère.

11 o’clock, the weather situation is gradually improving in the centre-east. However, some freezing drizzle was reported in the Lyon, Chambéry and Annecy areas. If the main roads are treated, care must still be taken on the secondary network. Light snowfall still occurs over the Alps. Note that up to 25 cm of snow fell in Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye (05) at an altitude of 1400 m. Snow fell as far as the valleys with 8 cm of snow at the Grenoble CEA station

At 9 in the morning the snowfalls go back to the east of the Rhône, in the Alpine departments, where they occur as far as the valleys. Due to the negative temperatures, the ice is generalized in the departments listed in a special press release. Regarding snow depths since last night, we measure 18 cm in Gap (05), 12 cm in Embrun (05), 10 cm in Aix les Bains (73), 8 cm in Chambéry (73) and 5 cm in Annecy ( 74 ) and Grenoble (38).

At 8 in the morning, the snowfall begins to subside. They gradually recede to the east of the Rhône, in the Alpine departments, where they descend to the plain. The situation remains delicate between Puy-de-Dôme, Loire and Rhône, where the ice is generalized with temperatures between -2 and 0°C. The high-altitude road network is particularly slippery with widespread ice.

7 am, the wintry weather continues in the Center East, with snow east of the Rhône and Saône and freezing rain between southern Burgundy and northern Auvergne. We will note this morning at 7 in the valleys as well as in the plain 6 cm of snow on the ground in Chambéry (73), 5 cm in Annecy (74) and Tournon-sur-Rhône (26), 4 cm in Vienne (38), 3 cm in Ambérieu (01) and 2 cm in Montélimar.

You need to be careful during your travels this morning, because this snow makes the roads especially slippery, especially since the temperatures are negative, increasing the risk of ice.

yesterday Monday

At 21, the snowy episode is generalized to the entire Massif Central. The snow sticks to the ground from an average height of 300 meters. We already measure 5 cm in Le Puy (43). This snow reaches Clermont-Ferrand, Saint-Etienne and Lyon, where it starts to stay on the ground with 0 to -2°C.

The snow reached the Rhone valley, between Montélimar and Vienne with 0°C. This snow will temporarily stay on the ground overnight before a thaw from Tuesday at

It also snows from a height of 500 meters in the hinterland of Var. In the next few hours, this snow will spread to all of Rhône-Alpes and then to Franche-Comté with moderate intensity, sometimes to the bottom of the valley between Grenoble and Annecy, as well as north of Lyon, towards Ambérieu, Dole and Besançon. Caution in these areas tonight and Tuesday morning, with a layer of up to 5 to 10 cm on the ground.
