The real snow and all that comes with it really got us in the winter mood for this last weekend before Christmas.
During the day Sunday, a light but steady snow will fall, generating accumulations of less than a centimeter. Centre-du-Québec, for its part, will be entitled to larger accumulations. The Charlevoix region is on a snow warning, with more than ten centimeters possible.
Exits from the road, reduced visibility, slippery roads, access ramps to motorways closed due to icing… The storm has worked! A lamppost even ended up on the tracks, and an electrician was sent to the scene. Several trees fell on the road near Noyan and Vaudreuil-Dorion on Saturday morning.
The air network was also affected, with flights delayed or even canceled at Montreal’s Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau International Airport. The airport even encouraged travelers to check their flight status before leaving.
At the height of the event, no fewer than 18,000 Hydro-Québec customers were without power, including nearly 10,000 in the Outaouais.
It is not finished
About thirty centimeters of snow fell in several regions of southern Quebec. Downtown Montreal was the most buried area with almost 39 centimeters. Ottawa/Gatineau is not very long, with almost 38 cm on the ground.
One of the special characteristics of this system is that it migrates very slowly. Several cities can therefore expect to see snowflakes falling almost all weekend. Quebec City is a good example.
The storm will extend its visit until Tuesday, with eastern Quebec the main region to watch. Twenty centimeters are possible in Bas-Saint-Laurent. A similar scenario is playing out in the Charlevoix and Chaudière-Appalaches/Bas-St-Laurent regions.
