the Italian chef who founded Casa Nobile, Pierre Lonobile, has died

The Casa Nobile restaurant founded by Pierre Lonobile had been open since 2014 in Lyon.

Lyon gastronomy is losing one of its most emblematic figures. Pierre Lonobile, chef at the “Casa Nobile” pizzeria, located on the Presqu’île de Lyon, in the 2nd arrondissement, died in full service on Tuesday at the age of 56.

In the process, Grégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyon, wanted to send his “sincere condolences” and his “support to his family and loved ones”.

In catering since 1999

The restaurant adventure began in 1999 when, together with his brother Jean, they took over the Café des Jacobins, in the square of the same name. Fifteen years later, the restaurant owner decided to launch an establishment dedicated to pizzas and traditional Italian dishes, Casa Nobile.

Very quickly, the restaurant opposite the Hôtel Dieu gained popularity and the Lyonnais family flocked there to taste a Neapolitan pizza.

Six companies in Lyon

Little by little, the noble empire grew and was exported through the French capital of gastronomy. Rue Bellecordière, the family opens “Nobile”, a small Italian grocery store that also offers sandwiches. This is followed by the opening of two “Forno Nobile”, one in Part-Dieu, rue Moncey and the other rue Grollée, for pizzas and Italian products to take away.

After the success of savory products, the family launched another Italian flagship product, ice cream, by opening “Gelateria Nobile”, rue Louis-Paufique.

Finally, a sixth establishment opened last February, located in the old halls of Gerland, a district known for its Italian heritage. It is here that the family decides to launch “Nobile Mare”, where fish and seafood products are given priority.

The Lyonnais react

Very quickly, customer reactions multiplied. Under the tweet of the mayor of Lyon, a user evokes “a great chef endowed with generosity and great talent” who has always “highlighted Sicilian products”.

Another internet user offers his “thoughts to his brother and his family” and states that Pierre Lonobile “will be missed in the neighborhood and at our lunches”.

There is no doubt that Pierre Lonobile will leave behind a Sicilian legacy that characterized the meals of Lyonnais.
