Lthe larger Walloon cities are divided. Lina is the first name given most in Liège between 2012 and 2021, Léa was celebrated in Charleroi and Louise in Namur. Also note the breakthrough of the first name Giulia in several municipalities in Hainaut or Mia’s first place in two municipalities in the province of Liège (Eupen and La Calamine).
At regional level, the three most given female first names between 1995 and 2021 are Léa, Manon and Camille. Essentially in the lead in 2012, however, Léa fell back over the course of the decade.
Preferences for male first names also vary depending on the major Walloon cities. Adam is the most given first name in Liège between 2012 and 2021, Gabriel in Charleroi and Louis in Namur. Less traditional first names come first in certain communes, such as Eden in Rumes (Hainaut), Timéo in Quaregnon (Hainaut), Oscar in Braives (Liège) or Tiago in Gedinne (Namur).
At regional level, Louis has received the most since 1995, ahead of Nathan and Hugo. If the first and the last do not go out of fashion (the second and sixth most known names respectively in 2021 in the Walloon region), Nathan loses ground (only 23rd in 2021), as does Théo.
Gabriel took first place, while Sacha mixed in the Walloon top 10.
